CHR’s Medical Director writes op-ed about the importance of telehealth
CHR’s Medical Director Dr. Steven Madonick wrote an excellent op-ed that appears in the current issue of the CT Mirror about the importance of maintaining telehealth options for people throughout Connecticut. He shows how telehealth has helped to improve access to care during the pandemic and can continue to break down barriers to care for years to come.
“We face a critical challenge during Connecticut’s 2021 legislative session. At some point this year, authorities will lift the COVID-19 emergency measures that authorize and fairly reimburse telehealth and telephonic care. Our state senators and representatives need to preserve access to these critically necessary services for people with mental health and substance use challenges,” Dr. Madonick writes, adding that many states have already passed legislation to “compel private insurers to reimburse telehealth and audio-only services with parity.”
