It may seem that every time you run your dishwasher, it “cleans itself” but that is unfortunately not the case.

Bacteria and germs can buildup over time if not cleaned regularly, such as grease, leftover bits of food, undissolved detergent, and more! This can reduce the efficiency of your dishwasher, and you may be at risk of damaging your filters and pumps. If you’re not careful, this may lead to expensive repairs, which is why it is important to get into a regular cleaning routine with your dishwasher.

How to Clean Your Dishwasher

  • Clear Our Your Drain Regularly - Get in the habit of clearing out your dishwasher drain once a week. Remove the bottom rack of the dishwasher, and clear away and food buildup in the drain. This will help your dishwasher run more efficiently, keep your dishes clean, and reduce risks of damaging your dishwasher.
  • Wipe the Interior of Your Dishwasher - Using a wet sponge or cloth, wipe the interior of your dishwasher regularly to reduce grease and grime buildup.
  • Use Vinegar - Once a month, you should use white vinegar to clean your dishwasher. Remove all the dishes and place a cup of vinegar (in a dishwasher safe container) and place it on the upper rack. Run the dishwasher through a hot water cycle. This will help reduce grease and grime buildup.
  • Baking Soda Cleanse - Once a month, use baking soda to clean your dishwasher. Add one cup of baking soda to the bottom rack of your dishwasher and run a short hot-water cycle to help remove stains and improve freshness.
  • Wipe the Exterior of Your Dishwasher - To keep the exterior of your dishwasher looking spick and span, use a stainless steel cleaner to wipe off any fingerprints and stains on your dishwasher.

Follow the above tips to keep your dishwasher clean and running efficiently.
