Most employee insurance plans expire when the person retires, and unless it’s included in your pension plan, it’s best to start thinking about where you will be purchasing your insurance before you retire or turn 65.


When you turn 65 and have retired, your health insurance options will change. As you age, you may require more coverage, and if you have worked full-time for the last ten years, you may qualify for Medicare. But if you have a low income, Medicaid is available to you.

Medicare, Medicaid, private funds, and insurance policies also cover nursing home expenses. 


Some individuals require help with everyday needs such as cooking, bathing, dressing, and medication. Assisted living is available for those persons. Costs of assisted living are determined by the size of the home and the services that are required. Private insurers cover assisted living.
