I never installed batteries into our hardwired VIVE thermostat and it's been working fine but today it shut off.

I checked the breakers and nothing was tripped.

I installed batteries which powered the thermostat on but when I switched it to cool, it doesn't kick the RHEEM AC unit outside on.

What could be the issue?

Question from user helpmeanswerquestion at hvacadvice at reddit.

Answer:

If your hardwired VIVE thermostat has shut off unexpectedly, there could be several potential reasons for this issue. Here are a few possibilities to consider:

Power supply issue: Check if the thermostat is receiving power properly. Ensure that the circuit breaker or fuse supplying power to the thermostat is not tripped or blown. If it is, reset the breaker or replace the fuse.

Wiring problem: Inspect the thermostat's wiring connections to ensure they are secure and properly connected. Loose or damaged wiring can cause power interruptions or system malfunctions. If you notice any issues, consult a professional electrician or HVAC technician to assess and resolve the problem.

Overheating protection: Thermostats often have built-in safeguards to prevent overheating. If the thermostat detects excessive heat, it may shut off as a safety measure. Make sure the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, heat sources, or any other factors that could cause it to overheat.

Faulty thermostat: It is possible that the thermostat itself is defective or malfunctioning. If none of the above troubleshooting steps resolve the issue, you might need to consider replacing the thermostat or contacting the manufacturer's customer support for further assistance.

Remember that these are general suggestions, and it's always recommended to consult the specific product's manual or reach out to the manufacturer's support for accurate troubleshooting guidance tailored to your VIVE thermostat model.
