Did I create a fire hazard in my dryer?
I accidentally ran a rag that had some oil paint and paint thinner on it through my washer and dryer.
The inside of the dryer smelled like oil when I opened it and I'm worried about the risk of spontaneous combustion.
Should I be concerned? Do I need to call a professional or is there anything I can do to manage this on my own? I rent my apartment so would need to contact my landlord if a technician is required.
Question from user zucchinibb at Appliances at reddit.
Answer:
No reason for concern if nothing happened.
People used to pretreat a lot of greasy - oily stuff in gasoline before washing and drying.
Not recommended for obvious reasons (particularly the dryer).
The scent will eventually dissipate with time and use.
