It’s the time of year again, tax time. This time of year can be stressful, especially for those who file taxes on their own. Even if you have been filing your taxes for years, you may come across some questions that need answering.

And if this is the first time you’re filing taxes on your own, you probably have a lot of questions. The most significant one is, how do I file my tax return?

Before starting, be sure to gather all important paperwork and place them in a folder or somewhere easily accessible. You’re going to need them to start.

Important paperwork includes your W-2 from all employers, receipts from charity work and donations, medical expenses, and business expenses if applicable. You should also have any other statements of earnings.

Other information can be Form 1099-G, which is your unemployment form.

You do not need to report any Coronovirus Economic Income (EIP) payments on your tax return as it’s non-taxable income.

The next step is determining your filing status, whether you are married or single. Household expenses also reflect your tax return. Some household expenses can be rent and utilities.

Another step is where you are going to file your taxes. It’s recommended you use tax software as it’s the easiest, quickest, and most accurate way to file. The final date to file your taxes is April 18, 2022.

If you cannot file your taxes by the due date, you may be able to get a six-month extension by the IRS.

You may qualify for a tax credit if you meet specific requirements such as low to moderate-income, children under 17, energy tax credits, and donations.

Parents with children under six can earn up to $3,600 and $3,000 for children between 6-17.

Low to moderate-income earners may receive a greater tax return or not have to pay taxes at all.

However, if you are required to pay taxes, you can apply for a payment plan if you’re unable to pay right away.

When you are ready to file and need some help, Lara’s Insurance is here for you. We can answer any of your tax needs, and if we can’t find the answer right away, we will find a tax return company for you.
