my entire ac system can’t cool more than 10 degrees to the outside temperature
Posted On: July 11, 2023

August 2022 my AC system was doing fine cooling the house but it unfortunately started leaking coolant.

Was told it's best to just get a whole new system by a technician.

So I bought the new system but now that summer is here I can't seem to cool my house when it gets to the mid 80s outside.

The system has water coming from below the coils here but the technicians are saying everything is just fine and only gave me recommendations and saw a couple things they quickly tweaked.

Even though they told me I'll “always be able to stay 20 degrees lower than the outside temp”.

First tech told me there was too much coolant, so he reduced it.

Second tech told me to replace the filter because my allergy ones were too thick.

I've done both things and I'm still here at these temps.

Nothing about my house has changed with this new system.

So it's very frustrating to pay out $7K for a whole new system and then another $7K for a furnace.

All to just be hotter than I was.

Should I have another company look at this? I'd hate to have to pay someone when I have a five year parts and labor warranty with my system but anything beats the heat.

Answer:

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your new AC system. It sounds frustrating to have invested in a new system and not see the desired results. In this situation, it might be worth considering having another company take a look at your AC system to get a second opinion.

While you have a five-year parts and labor warranty with your system, it's important to ensure that the installation and configuration are correct for optimal performance. Sometimes, a fresh perspective or expertise from a different technician can help identify any potential issues that may have been overlooked.

Before contacting another company, you can try a few troubleshooting steps on your own:

Double-check the thermostat settings: Make sure the thermostat is set to cooling mode and the temperature is set lower than the current room temperature.

Check for any obstructions: Ensure that there are no obstructions blocking the air vents, both inside and outside the house. Obstructions can restrict the airflow and impact cooling efficiency.

Inspect the air filter: Verify that the air filter is clean and properly installed. A clogged or dirty filter can restrict airflow and reduce the system's cooling capacity.

Assess the insulation: Check the insulation in your home, especially around windows and doors. Insufficient insulation can allow heat to enter the house, making it harder for the AC system to cool effectively.

If you have completed these steps and the problem persists, it would be advisable to seek another professional opinion. Be sure to communicate your concerns and provide a detailed account of the issues you're experiencing. It's possible that there may be an underlying problem with the system or its installation that needs to be addressed.
