Standard flood insurance policy
A standard flood insurance policy covers damages to your property. It can pay for the costs to rebuild your home for its value, damages incurred or your policy's liability limit. Contents are not included in this policy as they are separate. You will need to purchase content insurance to have everything covered.
You can purchase flood insurance through the NFIP or a private insurance company. Depending on your home's value, under $250,000, you can buy cost-effective insurance through the NFIP. If your home is worth more than $250,000, you must purchase your insurance through a private flood insurance company. Homes inside high-risk flood areas must have flood insurance before mortgage companies can release a loan. We work with the NFIP and private flood insurance companies at Holt Flood Insurance.
A standard flood insurance policy covers the building and foundation, HVAC systems, electrical systems, stoves, fridges and built-in dishwashers, flooring, walls and panellings, detached garages and debris removal. Content insurance covers personal belongings, curtains, portable and window AC units, portable dishwashers and microwaves, freezers and the food in them, washers and dryers and up to $2,500 worth of valuables. Flood insurance coverage does not include swimming pools, hot tubs and anything outside the home.
