the oven sparked and smoked under the clock as it was preheating?
i turned on the oven to roast some cashews and smelled something burning.
hadn't gone above 100 degrees.
opened the oven to check, and just under the ledge sparked and so i turned off the oven and it smoked up.
stove works.
it's a convection oven with only a top element.
decently clean.
Question from user anonymeapothicaire at Appliances at reddit.
Answer:
If your oven sparked and smoked while preheating, it could indicate a potential electrical or heating element issue. Here are some steps you can take to address the situation:
Turn off the Oven: If you haven't already done so, turn off the oven immediately to prevent any further incidents.
Disconnect Power: For safety reasons, unplug the oven from the power outlet to avoid any risk of electric shock or fire.
Allow It to Cool Down: Give the oven some time to cool down before attempting any further investigation.
Check for Obvious Damage: Once it's safe to do so, inspect the oven visually for any signs of damage, such as burnt wires, melted components, or discolored areas.
Do Not Use the Oven: Avoid using the oven until the issue is properly diagnosed and repaired by a qualified technician.
Seek Professional Help: To ensure safety and proper repair, contact a licensed technician or the manufacturer's customer service for assistance. They will have the expertise and knowledge to diagnose and fix the problem safely.
Remember, dealing with electrical appliances can be dangerous if you're not trained to do so. It's best to let professionals handle the repair to avoid any risks to yourself and your home.
