If you're old enough to remember the first Gran Turismo game, you'll know precisely what a Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak is. The bond between Grand Turismo and Suzuki is so strong that the Japanese manufacturer went through the trouble of creating a digital concept car, especially for the game.rnBut first, back to the Escudo. It was the car to own, and once you had it, you essentially won the game. There was nothing else even remotely fast enough to take it on. As a reminder, enjoy the magnificent piece of nostalgia below.rnSure, Gran Turismo only had 140 cars to choose from, and most of them were just regular hatches from Japanese manufacturers. This was well before manufacturers realized just how powerful the game was as a marketing tool. We had a thing for the '92 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and now we own the real deal. It's still just as slow as it was in the game.rnSorry for rambling on, but Suzuki recently demonstrated how much times have changed. Several manufacturers snubbed Gran Turismo initially, but Suzuki was not one of them. Grand Turismo launched with over 420 cars, but this list will continue to grow thanks to over-the-air updates. There isn't a single manufacturer missing from the list, and Ferrari even gave the creators permission to scan and record cars like the 2014 FXX and the 1971 365 GTB/4. You still start with a Honda Fit, however.rnBack to Suzuki's new digital concept. It's called the Vision Gran Turismo, and it's so much more than a digital rendering.rnThe creators of Gran Turismo go to great lengths to provide an authentic driving experience, which means Suzuki had to come up with realistic proportions and a propulsion system. Suzuki leaned hard into its heritage to create the Vision Gran Turismo. As a well-known maker of small cars, the Vision is a tiny two-seater with a lightweight aluminum body. According to Suzuki, it weighs just 970 kg, roughly 2,140 pounds.rnFor power, Suzuki turned to its equally famous motorcycle department. Under the long hood of the Vision, you'll find the 1,340 cc Hayabusa engine. As if that wasn't enough, Suzuki added three electric motors to keep it relevant. The total power output is 426 horsepower at 9,700 rpm.rnUnfortunately, the Vision Gran Turismo will only be available in digital format in Gran Turismo 7, but that's better than nothing, we suppose.rnYou can currently buy the Launch Edition of GT7 for just $69. Suzuki did not say whether the Vision Gran Turismo would be available in the game immediately, but you can rest assured that it will find its way into your digital garage soon enough.
