Who to trust? Consumer Reports, or a very experienced repair guy?
Our 10-yr-old washing machine (a Maytag) started making awful noises and we had a repair guy with many years' experience come over to take a look at it.
He diagnosed the problem and, with the cost of the repair, it makes more sense for us just to buy a new machine.
Here's the rub: The top 6 machines on Consumer Reports are LG machines, and LG also is at the top of their brand reliability ratings.
But the repair guy said, "whatever you do, don't get an LG. Or a Samsung." (this is just a repair person, by the way.He doesn't sell appliances, just fixes them.).
What's a buyer to do?
Opinions welcome.
Question from user squeezefan at Appliances at reddit.
Answer:
If he doesn't work with LG or Samsung it would not make sense to recommend them.
Whatever you buy make sure you have someone to fix it.
