WiTricity announced this week plans to launch a wireless charging system for the Tesla Model 3.

The company claims the Halo Charging System can deliver up to 11k.W. of wireless charging power, enough for 35-40 miles of driving range per hour, an amount roughly equivalent to most Level 2 home charging systems.

WiTricity says they have been testing the system on a 2018 Model 3 since October 2021, and that a full recharge takes about six hours.

Their engineers are also working on a system for the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and a number of other electric vehicles.

The system will consist of just three components, a receiver installed on the vehicle, a wallbox connected to a power source, and a charging pad connected to the wallbox to be placed on or in the ground.

The system will initially only be available in the U.S. later this year as part of a "limited beta." The company plans to make it more broadly available in 2023, but did not specify where, only to say more details will be released later this year.

My Take: Its the same thing as those cell phone charging pads but scaled up. This might work better for RoboTaxi cars as there is no plugin in. Just roll up and charge.
