I never installed batteries into our hardwired VIVE thermostat and it's been working fine but today it shut off. I checked the breakers and nothing was tripped. I installed batteries which powered the thermostat on but when I switched it to cool, it doesn't kick the RHEEM AC unit outside on. What could be the issue? Question from user helpmeanswerquestion at hvacadvice at reddit. Answer: If your hardwired VIVE thermostat has shut off unexpectedly, there could be several potential reasons for this issue. why does my pool heater keep shutting off?

Posted On: May 6, 2023
If your pool heater turns on but shuts off soon after, a dirty filter might be the problem. It could also be a safety switch, thermostat setting, or corroded electrical terminal. You can try a variety of solutions to remedy the issue. Clean the Filter Your pool heater needs enough water pressure to run properly, usually at least 40 GPM. If your heater isn’t getting a steady stream of water, it could be due to a clogged filter or dirty pump basket. Clean your filter, skimmer, and pump baskets. Turn off your heater and pump before cleaning. Rem...[More]

Question from user Cariot at hvacadvice at reddit. Answer: Thats your condenser coil. From what I see, not enough damage to make a huge difference in cooling efficiency, but you can look up coil combs and repair it, I have a set of about 6 with 12 different sizes for various models. In the future, light spray with the hose, never a hard clean like a pressure washer. why is my air conditioner so loud?

Posted On: April 23, 2023
If you’re asking, “Why is my air conditioning rattling?” or “Why is my air conditioner squealing?”, KDM Home & Gas offers a few answers (and solutions) to stop your loud unit. Your indoor or outdoor unit could be so loud for a few of the following common reasons: Most units use isolation padding to absorb the motion noise produced by the internal parts, especially the fan. These pads can wear over time and begin to crumble and break, increasing the noise level of your air conditioning unit. The refrigerant lines could be installed too...[More]

how to make my air handler quieter

how to make my air handler quieter

I have a Bosch ISD 2.0 BOVA-36HDN1-M20G with a BVA-24WN1-M20. 24kBTU, Air Handler Unit 2.0 unit. It was installed in my attic (no basement) and the problem is the sound. Every time the machine ramps up and down the air handler vibrates through the floor and ducts. The noise makes it very uncomfortable in the house and hard to sleep at night. I had my Bosch tech install vibration pads under the unit but that did not fix anything. I saw someone on the forums mention adding a lineset silencer to the unit? Is there a simple solution or maybe a sett...[More]

can my furnace explode?

Posted On: April 9, 2023
Furnaces are found in more homes than any other type of central heating system. Ironically, they’re also not well understood by the average homeowner, and that’s probably because they are so common; they’re easy to take for granted. You don’t need to be a furnace expert to have a good working furnace, that’s why you have professionals help with any furnace service or other heater repair In fact, only professionals with licenses to work on gas-powered heaters should ever handle service on a furnace. But extra knowledge is always helpfu...[More]

what is this weird filter at the back of my furnace air return

Posted On: April 8, 2023
Does anyone know what this filter is supposed to do in my air return? It is old and has shiny fiberglass looking fibers and based on how old the furnace was when we replaced it, I'd guess it was from the 90s. It's nasty and probably not doing much but not sure what the purpose is. Is it safe to remove? The first photo is where it is located and has a blue circle to show where it is and the red line shows how the filter is located within that duct. The two other photos just show what it looks like. Thanks!. Question from user passingby at hvacad...[More]

Question from an End-User. Good evening everyone! I'm hoping some Good Samaritan will take the time to help out with this if they have any thoughts. A little backstory. I pay significantly below market value in rent for my new-construction two-bedroom apartment. The property manager is absolutely terrible but the cost more than makes up for it. However, I generally try and handle any small maintenance issues by myself (either DIY or bring in a handyman) to avoid having to get the PM involved. This may sound crazy to some of you but I'm very hap...[More]
