thermostat not working after disconnecting reconnecting wires
Posted On: February 4, 2023
Question from user mbucks334 at hvacadvice at reddit.com.
Answer:
The first photo is the wiring setup when it was working perfectly fine. I tried to install a different thermostat and couldnt get it to power on. I was going to just give up and try tomorrow and replace my old one in the meantime. Put it back on and wired it exactly how it looked before (minus the wire length exposure which I have since trimmed) and it wont work. This is connected to a furnace which I can hear go on off when I switch it. The thermostat clicks as well but does...[

Problem started happening a week ago. The thermostat connects to a fireplace (brand Heat & Glo) which heats my apartment.
Now 8/10 times, the fireplace no longer turns on automatically unless I touch the metal box underneath that has the buttons to turn it on manually. This means the temperature drops to as low as 60F overnight unless I go feel up the metal box under the fireplace.
What could the problem be?
Question from user A-Reed-Tree23 at hvacadvice at reddit.com.
Answer:
You mean you just touch the box without pressing any buttons and it ...[
